ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE PRESS OFFICE OF THE CC OF KNE CONCERNING THE STATEMENTS OF EDUCATION MINISTER GAVROGLOU AT THE RADIO STATION NEWS247 ON OCTOBER 24TH

The Press Office of the CC of KNE on October 24th published an announcement concerning the statements of the Education Minister of the SYRIZA- ANEL government K. Gavroglou about the mobilizations organized by students and school students.

Once again, the Education Minister questioned those who mobilized. Speaking to a Greek radio station, he characteristically stated: “What concerns us is where do these children draw their legality from, because these are not the decisions of General Assemblies, nor of the mass movement, or anything else”. And added that there are parties “which close their eyes to these situations” and that ““Rizospastis” for example, before schools began, announced that a front of school students was formed that will demand a, b, c”.

In this framework, the Press Office of the CC of KNE released an announcement- response, highlighting that “legality” is the right of the youth to demand its contemporary rights.

Below is the announcement:

The Education Minister of the SYRIZA government K. Gavroglou, reached the point of doubting the legality of the mobilizations of the university and school students, who demand their self-evident rights in education and life, by making “instigators” up and following faithfully the authoritarian “law and order” practice of the previous governments of ND-PASOK.

“Legality” to the struggle of the youth is given by the escalated problems that young people and their families face every day, as a result of the anti-popular governmental policy.

“Legality” to the struggle of the school students is given by their fair demands for a school and a life with rights, the hundreds of fifteen-member and five-member student councils all over Greece that have discussed and mobilize against the draft law, which is being prepared by the SYRIZA-ANEL government and makes High School an even more “exhausting” examination center, striking any educational rights of the school students left.

“Legality” is given by the university students, who demonstrated today outside the Ministry of Education, as it was decided by the students’ unions.

For example, the students of the School of Philosophy, or the School of Physics of Athens, who, through massive general assemblies, collectively demand and mobilize against the detachment of the pedagogical proficiency from their degrees, a development that will bring new obstacles to their right in work. The 1500 plus students from Thessaly, who participated in the General Assemblies and organize their struggle against the draft law of the government, which forms an even darker present and future for the students etc.

As the school students wrote on one of their banners last year, addressing the government: “Do not ask “HOW” the students mobilize, ask “WHY” “… As long as the contemporary needs of the youth are being sacrificed for the interests and the profitability of the few, the youth and its struggles for its contemporary rights will stand against them!
