19th Congress of KKE

“Communism is the youth of the world!”

“So come brothers and sisters
For the struggle carries on
The Internationale
Unites the world in song”

A century ago, over these days (20-26 November, 1919), 29 representatives from 13 countries were illegally gathering in Berlin, representing 219.000 members of Youth Organizations. It was the founding congress of the Young Communist International (YCI), which operated for 24 years as a section of the Communist International (CI) (which had been founded on March 1919) and under its guidance.

The Communist Youth Organizations that sign this joint announcement, we honour the 100th anniversary since the founding of the YCI. Its founding met the need for joint struggle of communist federations and youth organizations, the task to elaborate and realise the decisions of the CI, aiming at the revolutionary education and organization of the young workers. The YCI inherited the experience from the fight that was given over the previous years against the chauvinist policy of the leadership of the Second International, first of all the great revolutionary contribution of the young people of Russia, Hungary, Germany, the countries that were shocked by the first socialist revolutions and uprisings.

The 24-year action of the YCI is full of heroic moments and constitutes a source of conclusions for the Communist Youth Organizations today. Its course cannot be detached by the course and contribution of the CI, as well as the youth organizations that formed it. It is identified with the heroism that was shown by millions of young communists in the fight against fascism and militarism, in the national liberation fight, as well as with the persistence in the defense of better terms of education, life and work of the youth. The YCI also contributed to the formation and strengthening of Communist Youth Organizations throughout the world, to the practical internationalist solidarity towards the struggling and oppressed peoples. Fruitful conclusions can be drawn from the historic course of the CI and the YCI. Conclusions concerning the struggle against fascism and its connection to the struggle against capital, the damaging collaboration with social-democracy and opportunism, the stance against the imperialist war.

Today, the need for a joint struggle of the CYOs all around the world emerges against the negative international correlation of forces for the peoples. Proletarian internationalism, the internationalist character of our struggle, is not just an expression of solidarity, but it constitutes a key element of it, resulting from the internationalist character of class struggle. The sharpening of the inter-imperialist antagonisms, which is increasingly taking the form of military conflict, the attack of the governments and the imperialist unions against labour rights, popular liberties, the sharpening of repression and the dead-ends that the youth faces today, come up against the joint struggle of thousands of young communists.  Over the previous years, we have taken steps towards a joint pacing, in the unwavering struggle against anti-communism, in the revival of the communist movement with new forces. On the occasion of the completion of 150 years since the birth of the leader of the October Revolution, V.I Lenin, on April 2020, we commit to continue in this direction even more decisively.

The Communist Youth Organizations, we honour our past, we struggle today, we prepare ourselves to conquer tomorrow –the victory- Socialism-Communism!
