19th Congress of KKE

Statement of the Press Office of the CC of the KKE on the unacceptable anticommunist decision of the Ukrainian Parliament

The KKE most categorically denounces the unacceptable decision of the Ukrainian Parliament to identify communism with fascism and to ban the activity of communists and the dissemination of communist ideas, at the same time historically justifying the local fascists, the so-called “Ukrainian Liberation Army”.

The current Ukrainian Parliament, as is very well known, emerged from elections that were held in conditions of violence, electoral fraud and civil war. This situation held sway due to the blatant intervention of the USA and EU in Ukraine, in the framework of their competition with Russia.

The political forces that ascended to government and are the majority in the current Ukrainian Parliament are seeking to follow with this specific law the “model” of the path of the Baltic countries, which have been identifying communism with fascism for over 20 years now, at the same time when the local fascists are being justified historically and presented as “patriots” and “democrats”, because they fought at the side of the Nazis against Soviet power.

This decision has the ideological-political backing of the USA and EU, as is demonstrated by other related statements of the EU Parliament and Council of Europe.

The timing of this decision’s ratification is not accidental. It has been taken at the moment when the socio-economic situation of the workers is deteriorating, when the antiworker-antipeople measures are being advanced and when the plans to continue the civil war in Southeast Ukraine not only have not been abandoned but are gaining ground. They are seeking to spread political terror at the expense of those who are resisting the current reactionary government in Kiev.

The SYRIZA-ANEL government is exposed as it actively participates in EU’s support for the reactionary Kiev government, as is clear from the “European Council Conclusions on external relation” (19th of March 2015).

The KKE expresses its solidarity with the communists of Ukraine and the certainty that the struggle of the Ukrainian people, 70 years after the Antifascist Victory of the Peoples will repel these anti-communist and anti-people plans as well!
