35th Anti-Imperialist Camp of KNE:“80 Years Since the Founding of the Democratic Army of Greece: With the KKE at the forefront and the people as the protagonists, history is being written!”

Thousands of KNE members and supporters gathered in the region where, from the spring of 1947 through August 1949, the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE) maintained a strong presence and carried out its activities. This region served as the DSE General Headquarters, the seat of the Provisional Democratic Government, and the base of the Central Committee of the KKE. In the territories under the control of the Democratic Army of Greece, new, people-based institutions of power were established, giving rise to “Free Greece”. The campers followed in the footsteps of the fighters of the DSE, became acquainted with the vanguard and militant actions of the Democratic Army of Greece, and drew valuable conclusions for the contemporary struggles of the working class, the people, and the youth.

Among the events was a discussion on the People’s Army, with contributions from Dimitris Gontikas, member of the Central Committee of the KKE, and Frixos Brouzgos, member of the Bureau of the Central Council of KNE.

The camp also featured a rich programme of sporting and cultural activities, including concerts by musical groups. A Children’s Camp was organized for friends of the “Red Hot-Air Balloon” (for children aged 9 to 13), with its own dedicated programme of activities.

The Camp’s activities culminated in the large political rally held on Sunday, 5 July, in the central square of Florina, with an address by Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE, and a speech by Thodoris Kotsantis, Secretary of the Central Council of KNE.

A large, militant march through the main streets of Florina followed. Thousands of young men and women marched through the streets of the city, which is inextricably linked with the heroic history of the Democratic Army of Greece, before reaching the Monument of the Central Committee of the KKE dedicated to the fallen fighters of the DSE in the Battle of Florina.
