“Cuba is not alone!” —thousands of people, including many young people, proclaimed through their mass participation in the large rally organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and KNE, on Wednesday 11 March, expressing their solidarity with the heroic Cuban people and the Communist Party of Cuba.
People of all ages, waving red flags and the flag of the Island of Revolution, chanted with passion and strength: “The peoples are Cuba’s shield, end the blockade now”.
The rally was followed by a large march towards the US embassy, with demonstrators holding images of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara and chanting “Hands off Cuba”.
The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, in his speech said that the rally had been held primarily to express the unwavering internationalist solidarity of the KKE, KNE and broader sections of the Greek people with the Cuban Revolution, the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban people. He stressed that the gathering also aimed to condemn the long-standing and multifaceted imperialist blockade, as well as the threats and aggression of the United States and its allies against the Cuban Revolution.
He added that the KKE and KNE drew inspiration from the legacy and heroic history of the Cuban Revolution, and that they honoured the revolutionary struggles of the Cuban people and the great figures it had produced.
He also condemned the imperialist attack by the United States and Israel against the peoples of Iran and Lebanon, as well as the stance of the Greek government, which, he said, was participating in dangerous imperialist plans and thereby putting the Greek people at risk in the service of monopoly interests.
