The student elections have been completed across the country, with youth delivering a resounding response  once again making Panspoudastiki KS—the list supported by the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) at universities—the first force for the fourth consecutive year. Once again, they left DAP, the government-backed right, liberal New Democracy’s list in second place.

According to the final results, Panspoudastiki received 33.64% of the votes, while DAP  obtained 23.93%. Panspoudastiki emerged first in 14 Universities and in 133 Student Unions, achieving an absolute majority in 96 of them.

Students strongly condemned the New Democracy government’s policy favoring private universities, the downgrading and commercialization of education and degrees. They demonstrated in practice their opposition to the dominant policies that produce tragedies like the Tempi railway disaster and subsequently attempt to cover them up. They also raised their voices against the genocide of the Palestinian people. The students sent a powerful message against the government’s organized attempt to distract from the real problems, to erase the student movement, and turned their backs on the factions of compromise with anti-people policies.

Address of Thodoris Kotsantis, Secretary of the CC of KNE

At the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where members and friends of KNE gathered to celebrate yet another victorious result and to renew their determination to fight for a stronger, more effective student movement, Thodoris Kotsantis stated:

"The students have sent a message of militant optimism to the people of Greece and have condemned the criminal policies of the government and other system parties, which constantly create new 'Tempi' tragedies and obstacles to students’ education, future employment, and lives."

He added:

"We are aware that we are assuming a great responsibility and initiative to decisively advance the militant regroupment of the student movement."

Concluding his statement, he noted:

"There is a red breach, a militant presence within the universities, which the system cannot get rid of. Congratulations to all, and strength for the battles ahead."
