On Wednesday 21 October, tens of thousands of people, especially young people, participated in nationwide education rallies held in dozens of cities across Greece. School students, university students and teachers in Greece took up the torch from the young people who have been demonstrating and flooding the streets of cities across Europe.

They expressed their solidarity with the just struggle of young people in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Albania for education and a life commensurate with the potential of our times. They chanted the slogan “From Greece to France, we fight for public and free education!”.

In Athens, a vast sea of demonstrators, with densely packed contingents of school and university students, flooded the city centre. School and university students joined their voices in singing The Internationale and Bella Ciao, while thousands of demonstrators demanded “Money for education, not for NATO's slaughterhouses!”.
In Thessaloniki,
thousands of school students, university students and teachers demonstrated militantly, despite attempts to intimidate school students, demanding modern and safe schools, free education and measures to address student housing needs.
In Patras,
thousands of school and university students demonstrated alongside teachers, parents and striking workers. Militant mobilizations were also held in Larissa, Heraklion and Chania, with the mass participation of school students, teachers, parents and workers, who joined their voices to demand their right to education and the life they deserve.

The magnificent rallies provided a resounding response in practice to the government's attempts throughout the preceding period to undermine and discredit the struggles of young people and create a climate of intimidation.

Young people declared loud and clear that they would continue and intensify their struggle, because the problems are common to every country and the culprit is the same. It is the governments and the European Union that sacrifice the rights of the many for the profits and wars of the few. It is the system of exploitation!

The next milestone will be the new rallies of school and university students in Athens and Piraeus on Friday 30 October, when they will join forces with the major international mobilization of dockworkers, which has spread to more than 100 ports around the world, under the slogan “We won't work for war!”

Because when the people make their voices heard in the streets, cities of light are born everywhere!
