Statements

More than 120 Student Associations participated in the meeting. Hundreds of students from all over the country met to discuss and jointly plan their action under the slogan "Degrees that matter – Free Studies! This is what is contemporary for the students. We fight collectively - we are coordinating nationwide".

The call of MAS stressed: "(Our slogan) will resonate loudly on Saturday at Panteion University. There will beat the heart of the Student Movement, of every student who is concerned and worries about their studies and their life, who does not compromise with what the governments and the EU present to us as 'realism'", and added:

"The big meeting is about organising the students' struggle in the face of the attack on our needs and rights. Against the huge cost of studies that is a lump in the throat of every student and his/her family, against the conditions of studies that are constantly getting worse because of selective underfunding, against the reactionary changes of downgrading our degrees.

We continue even more decisively, with experience and lessons learned from the biggest student mobilisations of recent years, against private universities and the further commercialisation of higher education. Our previous Meeting played a decisive role in manifesting this nationwide movement. This year's Meeting takes on special significance, because now that the attack on our rights is getting stronger, it is time to coordinate the struggle nationwide!"

The meeting started with the opening speech on behalf of the Executive Secretariat of the MAS.

Alongside were shown greeting messages sent by student organizations and Student Associations of other countries.

Dozens of representatives from the Student Associations participating in MAS took the floor throughout the day.

The meeting concluded with the formation of the new coordinating body of the MAS and the planning of action.

On the sidelines of the Nationwide Meeting there were meetings of students with representatives of workers' federations and trade unions and meetings of militant coordination of the demand concerning important fronts of struggle.

The meeting resulted in a fighting plan of action

As a first milestone were set the rallies against the budget of taxation, austerity, cuts and war expenditures on 11 December.

A joint resolution of 121 student associations was adopted against student expulsions and a series of actions to prevent their implementation. Specifically with nationwide mobilizations on 12 January to prevent the administrations from accepting the implementation of the measure and to ensure a double examination period for all students.

The Student Associations also decided to strengthen the struggle against the imperialist wars and the involvement of our country and the universities. They coordinated their demands to cancel the cooperation of the University of Athens with Lockheed Martin and any other cooperation and research for their murderous plans, making it clear that NATO officials are not welcome in the schools.

The need to take more distinctive steps in the operation and life of the student associations, to enrich their action, to take initiatives for the greater spreading of the action of the student associations that rally together in MAS was pointed out.
