“We salute and express our solidarity with the thousands of school students who have flooded the streets of France demanding ‘Education for all’, the main slogan of their mobilizations,” notes the Press Office of the Central Council of KNE in a statement on the mobilisations in France, stressing:

“Classes of 35 students, schools without heating, thousands of vacant teaching posts, class barriers and discrimination: this is the true picture of the French education system, which is held up as a ‘model’ by the Greek government and the convenient opposition. Young people are reacting en masse against cuts in education spending, as the French government, like governments across the EU, spends billions on military armaments, sacrificing wages, Health and Education.

We denounce the brutal state repression, with thousands of arrests, demonstrators injured, beatings and tear gas. Indicative is the placard held by one school student at a demonstration: ‘Can we talk without you firing tear gas at us?’ This is the so-called ‘democracy’ throughout the EU, which uses the whip against all those who raise their heads and fight for their rights.

In France, in Greece and throughout the world, those who think they will be able to stop the youth from struggling, demanding and dreaming of a better world are sorely mistaken. On Thursday, 8 October, it is the turn of school students in Greece, with the Nationwide Day of Action in schools across the country!”
